Mixed Martial Arts Extreme Fighting & Championship Boxing Extravaganza

Hector “Macho” Camacho faces Perry “The Punisher” Ballard for the World Boxing Empire title (whatever that is)

Published on July 17, 2008

The full-contact Mixed Martial Arts Extreme Fighting & Championship Boxing Extravaganza should appeal to fans of both Rocky Balboa and Tito Ortiz. One of the boxing matches, billed as a “Return of the Legends,” pits former lightweight champion Hector “Macho” Camacho against Perry “The Punisher” Ballard for the World Boxing Empire (whatever that is) light middleweight title.

The now 46-year-old Camacho has had a number of Mike Tyson-like run-ins with the law in recent years, for drug possession, burglary and domestic abuse raps. But the man who beat legends like Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran says he’s found God now, and all that’s behind him. (Uh-huh.)

Another bout will pit female pugilist Christy “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” Martin against Beaumont resident Valerie “The Wolfe” Mahfood. 8 p.m. Reliant Arena, One Reliant Park. For tickets and information, call 713-629-3700 or visit www.ticketmaster.com. $25 to $125.
